A pair of Gefell MV691 with UM70 capsule. If you get them in great shape – cool. Most of the old eastern German membranes show signs of corrosion these days. This pair of microphones got maybe the best treatment possible: They’ve been completely restored by Thiersch Elektroakustik in Schleiz. The membranes of the UM70 have been reskinned with the blue line PVC transducer. Thiersch is the only engineer in the world who produces these super thin PVC membranes like they have been used in the classic Neumann M7 back in the 50s. This pair of Gefell sounds fantastic. It’s a great choice on drum overheads, vibraphone or vocals.
